Whitney Houston Dies at 48

Whitney Houston Dead at 48
My heart is saddened this evening by the passing of one of the most powerful vocalists that I have ever known. I am reflecting back on the gospel programs in NJ, where Whitney (as a child) would rock the house. Whitney was a gift in song to the entire world. To Mother Cissy Houston, Dionne Warwick and the rest of the family, may the Almighty give you strength and peace during this tragic time for us all. Rest in peace Whitney.

I was a teenager the first time I ever heard a Whitney Houston song on the radio. She almost instantly became America's Darling. She was the Good Girl in contrast to Madonna's Bad. In the beginning of her career she could do no wrong. The beginning is only an instant.
As soon as she became famous enough rumors began to circulate about her sexuality, bad attitude and less than personable disposition. Still, her public relations people and her resounding voice maintained her status as America's Darling. When she married Bobby Brown, for many it was a lavender marriage (a marriage of convenience to hide homosexuality), still others were puzzled given Bobby Brown's known drug habits and criminalized behavior. Even when rumors of Whitney and Bobby's drug habits began to stir, we still loved Whitney. When her drug use became more than public and her voice began to suffer, we loved her. Through all of her self-created destruction, we loved her. Now, in death, I sent my deepest condolences to her family and to those in her life that tried to protect her from herself.
